Vocational Service Project - Pride of Workmanship Scholarship
1. Name of Project. Stronger Families Vocational Scholarship
2. Background to the Project.
The Rotary Club of Maryborough has come together with the Go Goldfields Alliance and the Maryborough Education Centre in a partnership designed to deliver improved outcomes for all families in our community.
Maryborough Rotary has a genuine commitment to improve the lives of the citizens in our local community and believes that the most effective way of achieving this in a sustainable manner, is to provide opportunities for individuals to gain skills which will enable them to achieve their full potential.
It is due to this that we are offering a scholarship to one successful applicant to investigate best practice in an area that will help make our families stronger.
Rotary is providing up to $5,000 to be utilised on visiting and investigating best practice in an area that will assist families to achieve better outcomes within our communities.
This scholarship will fund conferences, accommodation, travel or other expenses deemed appropriate to achieve the aim of the scholarship.
3. Aim
The aim of the scholarship is to identify world excellence in a vocational field for the advancement of our families and to bring this into our community. It is believed that this will both develop and enhance social infrastructure of our community to build social capital.
4. Eligibility Criteria
The scholarship is open to any one over the age of 18 years who is working in a volunteer or paid capacity within the Shire within a field which impacts on the wellbeing of families. Preference will be give to people living within the Central Goldfields Shire and immediate surrounds.
The successful candidate will need to be able to undertake the work and complete the work within 12 months for presentation back by October 2013 as well as giving a commitment to provide ongoing contributions to families within the Shire over the subsequent two years.
Applicants need to research and identify excellence in a field including world’s best practice
Applicants will need to show support from their employer.
5. Key Selection Criteria
The successful candidate will need to meet the following key selection criteria:
a. Be working within a field that impacts on family wellbeing within the Central Goldfields Shire
b. Have a minimum of three (3) years experience within a relevant field
c. Demonstrate prior performance within a relevant field
d. Demonstrate ability to complete the project within 12 months
e. Ability to present learnings back to the community and professionally over the subsequent two years.
f. Area and location of excellence clearly identified and scoped
g. Preference will be given to applications that have a practice element

5. Scholarship Deliverables
The successful candidate will deliver:
a. A hard copy and electronic report (PDF) of the outcomes of the research and application of service excellence.
b. A verbal presentation at the Rotary Club of Maryborough Pride of Workmanship Dinner 2013
c. A two year commitment to utilising the learnings in the Central Goldfield Shire Communities.
