PREZ SEZ week 3

It is good to see that our committees are wasting no time in getting on with the job.

PP Brian Thomas and his Brian Dowie Park team have had a meeting with representatives from the community in order to get this significant community asset used and maintained.  Our first working bee will be in October.

Ray Hannan is working on the international works project and hopefully Kate Ashton’s contact from East Timor may help in getting this project off the ground. This project will take some time to get up and running, but I am sure that it will be more than beneficial to all stake holders. This project is a logistical challenge and I would encourage members of the International Committee to contact Ray to see what you can do to get this project up.

Matt Broad’s working group on family violence awareness, has had another meeting and is working its way around defining the subject. The issue is huge not only in our community but in all communities. It is interesting to hear some of the misconceptions that surround family violence. One of our older customers congratulated our Club for addressing family violence and thought that it was only relevant to disadvantaged communities, but as we can see from recent celebrity incidents, the issue has no barriers. A report in Sunday’s Age suggests that the stress and trauma from domestic violence can even be transferred to the womb.

This project is a real challenge for our Club to be involved in, but the outcomes can really change lives for a whole generation.

It’s great to see the co – operation between our committees with our Vocational Committee nominating family violence as its “vocation” for this year’s Pride of Workmanship and Vocational Scholarship. PP Tom Davies has already booked the Highland Society and has met to develop the criteria for selection for the Vocational Scholarship.

Our Club has received great credit for last years work on membership and we can all see the positive impact our new members have had on all aspects of our Club. We must continue to regenerate our membership in order for our Club to be an interesting place to be and a great movement in changing peoples lives. PP Derek and his membership committee are planning a membership night on the 15^th of next month. We all have a responsibility to grow our membership; you will be surprised what happens when you ASK and talk about the good things our Club is involved in. Remember, August is MEMBERSHIP MONTH.

Board members are reminded that our first meeting will be held this Thursday evening at Raglan House. The Chairs of the Youth, International, Vocational and Community need to have met with PE Graeme prior to this Board meeting with your monthly reports.

 I encourage you to make it easy for Graeme and furnish him with a written report; it doesn’t have to be huge, just what progress your committee is making on projects.
