While running the RYPEN program represents considerable work, all those Rotarians involved, considered the task enjoyable and worthwhile. PP DGN Geoff James’ session was very well received and Phil Melgaard, the Odd Sox Circus man, on Saturday evening had all the 15-17 year old boys skipping and dancing around! How did Phil manage that?

Our thanks to Jackie and Shane Dellavedova for their extensive organisation and involvement; the other Rotarians who attended and to Secretary Thea, for her work with registrations; and Rob and Rose who manage the camp, for their professionalism and the food and Bob Butterfield for his four participants. Bob individually sold the camp to four of his young staff and he attended for two days as well.

It was again apparent that the schools in Maryborough have not been the source of many (any) of our participants. Contrast this with Ballarat College, Grammar and St Pat’s, where RYPEN is mentioned in the school prospectus as something students can participate in.

Thirty-six students were all engaged from the very start right through to the final activity, which involved an armful of native cunning and ingenuity and water!

Bottom line is another successful RYPEN program and another batch of inspired youngd-sters who have each gained an insight into Rotary
