Living Wills
On August the 28th local Celebrant Noelle Mason spoke to the club on Living Wills otherwise known as Advanced Healthcare Directives (AHCD). Australiawide medical professionals are being educated as to what they are and how they affect the work they do especially in Emergency Medicine.
Living Wills do not affect your will that is put into effect after your death, nor does it affect any “Power of Attorney” that you have in place. Be it medical, financial or otherwise.
Noelle advised members to seek professional Legal advice for their individual circumstances as no two are the same.
Whilst you can CLICK HERE to obtain generic information it would be in your interest to obtain legal advice, prior to having yours done. A copy is lodged with a registry and your GP I think. It is up to you to tell those in your immediate family (and friends if you wish).
With a Living Will or Advanced Healthcare Directive there would be no doubt as to your wishes prior to your death should you be unable to speak for yourself.
Noelle’s aim is to get people “having the Conversation” about the AHCD which makes it easier on medical professionals as well as families should the need arise where there is any doubt.
