Job talk – Bob Butterfield

Bob was supported by his wife Carol, who continued to hostess us while he gave his Job Talk at Peppa’s restaurant, attached to their Bristol Hill Motel. Bob has lived his life pursing a career playing and then coaching competitive tennis around the world.
Bob played tennis at Maryborough grass courts in the 60’s, and even made a film "How to play tennis" when he was 11 years old! Since then he had been around the world with the game.  Bob has worked under and with “Mr (Harry) Hopman”, developing many players, including John Mc Enroe, and watching the Master at work. He recalled “Team Aussie”, players who lived on their camaraderie in the early days, through to some of the spoilt brats, driven by their parents and accompanied by innumerous retinue. Only Chinese and Japanese kids now seemed disciplined enough and committed enough to put the time and work in to achieve success these days.

Bob seemed to think that running a motel in Maryborough, and cooking a lovely breakfast for us constituted some sort of retirement!
