On April 23rd, local mining engineer and train buff, Noel Laidlaw laid out the case for the return of the Mildura Passenger Train Service to Melbourne - via Maryborough. The passenger service ceased in 1973 and was “replaced” by a bus service that travels through the night. Travellers also have the option of a $700+ plane trip if they really need to get to Melbourne quickly. Noel explained that there is a lot of community support for the train service which could “piggy back” on one of the existing Maryborough to Melbourne services and also one of the Melbourne to Maryborough trips five days each week.
