PP Brian Reed joined our club in May last year, but we were finally able to hear his "New Member" talk last Thursday. Brian starting his working life as an apprentice plumber and then went on to run his own plumbing business for over thirty years.After that, he worked as a Building Supervisor for a time. Two of Brian's particular interests are Bell Ringing and cultivating Bansai plants. Brian has rung Church bells in a number of Victorian towns including Bendigo and Beechworth. It was his "bell ringing" that actually got him into Rotary. In 2012, whilst living in Bundoora, a local Priest and Rotarian invited Brian to talk to Bundoora Rotary about his Ring "Methods". Brian continued attending Bundoora Rotary as a guest and soon became a member. Not long after, he was appointed as President, and held the position for two years in a row! A few years ago, Brian was visiting a friend in Daisy Hill, and his friend suggested that Maryborough would be a good area in which to retire. Brian discussed the idea with his wife, Robyn, and the two of them agreed they would "take the journey to the Central Goldfields" and live in the "Golden heart" (to quote two old Rotary Conference songs). Since moving here, Brian has been working for a couple of days a week at Kangaroo Flat Bunnings, and the Bunnings people want him to conduct some Bansai classes once restrictions ease. Brian says that Spring is the best time to cultivate the plants. What Brian really loves about Rotary is the camaraderi, so he and Robyn are looking forward to the other side of this crisis. As members will know, Brian and Robyn have been real assets to our club, and we look forward to their fellowship and contributions into the future.
