Club Members who have not given notice of their inability to attend the meeting are expected to pay the cost of the dinner being $20.  Members can pay by cash or EFTpos at the fellowship table on arrival or online to Maryborough Rotary.
Have you thought about prepaying a block of meeting fees online?  Club Treasurer Peter Haywood would be interested in hearing from members who would like to adopt this method.

Each week four Club Members are rostered for Fellowship to assist in greeting attendees, collecting monies, managing the drinks table and putting away meeting items. If you are rostered and unable to attend the meeting, please arrange a replacement.

Riseley's Remarkables Ramblings
The Conference plans are well underway and when DGE Anthony is available we are going to have him talk on that and his travels.
Meanwhile back at the ranch, The Rotarian magazine is running a photo Competition, click HERE to be taken to the details. It is to include a photo from a fundraiser or club event.
Did you know that in March it is Rotaract's 50th Birthday?
In Sydney there is a big celebration on 17 & 18th. Image may contain: text
Wouldn't it be fun for those who go? Make amazing friendships that can last a lifetime.
RI President Ian Riseley knows this project is huge. He wants all Rotary Districts across Australia working together to eliminate trachoma by 2020. It will be through our unity that we will be able to do some incredible work which will improve the health and environments of our remote Indigenous peoples, working alongside communities, government and non-government agencies.
I wonder if there is more that we can do other than donate money, perhaps someone could organise a trip to do some volunteer work and go as a group?
Something to think about.
Have a wonderful week
President Karen McCarthy

NYSF 2018 Presentation by Maggie Tranter

It was delightful to see and hear the passion from Maggie Tranter, our latest NYSF attendee.  Maggie was so excited and a pleasure to listen to about her time and experiences whilst attending the two week camp in Canberra. The possible one down side was the 14 hour bus trip to actually arrive there. Once arrived the students were divided into groups - Maggie's was Health and Medical and there were 14 in her group for the time.

Some of the places of interest that Maggie attended were;

  • Parliament House
  • Animal Referral Hospital - observed surgery on a pug dog, a golden retriever
  • Canberra Hospital - visit to Pathology Labs and viewed the results of infectious diseases on humans - of particular interest were how the Chemistry and Biology knowledge work together to complete a diagnosis
  • Observed a Biomechanics workshop
  • Participated in a workshop regarding Thinking Big - and how to use stress for better
  • War Memorial Institution
  • Dress up for the disco as baby sharks
  • A break day on the middle Sunday - watched movies and had some down time
  • ACU campus
  • Observed a video conference of Physics in the USA - one in particular resonated with Maggie from a great speaker who was the first lady scientist in Physics
From this Maggie thinks she had decided her future path in Medical area - pathology
Thank you to Maggie for such a wonderful presentation and good luck for Year 12 this year and your chosen career path
Presentation to Kelsey Chandler
President Karen presented Kelsey Chandler with a couple of Rotary items in readiness for Kelsey's overseas trip for her Best Practice - Nurture program conference in Ireland and Scotland.  There is great excitement about Kelsey being the first Australian to attend the Nurture program and be trained in this wonderful new idea.
Good luck for your trip in March.
District Governor elect - Anthony Ohlsen
District Governor (9780) elect - Anthony Ohlsen provided details of his recent trip in attending the DG elect conference in the US.  The theme for 2018-19 is Be The Inspiration.  A conference planning meeting was held last night and it is exciting the planning of yet another District Conference in Maryborough in March 2019.  Plenty of tasks to be completed and roles still needing to be filled.
Vocation Talk - John Caulfield
Thank you to John Caulfield for his interesting 3 minute vocation talk.  John chose a teaching career and enjoyed every aspect of it.  It allowed him to live the life he wanted.  Life is about needs and Rotary now meets some of his needs extremely well and this is the rewarding aspect of Rotary.
Thank you from Joan Hartley
Joan Hartley was nominated and received a Paul Harris Fellowship pin last year from Maryborough Rotary in a presentation.  Joan sent a card and a personal sincere thank you for her nomination and award.
Ink Spot by Geoff James - Month of February Rotary theme - Peace and Conflict Resolution
